Den bergenske musikeren, historiefortelleren og filmskaperen Kristin Vollset. Hun beskriver selv musikken sin som tropisk punk eller viserock, og tekstene utforsker temaer som sosial rettferdighet, antropologi og kosmiske krefter. Samtidig ser hun på musikkformidling som en form for sjamanisme, og mener musikk er sentral for å få folk tilbake til en mer naturlig og sjelfull tilstand.
Vollset startet som gatemusiker i Frankrike og Mexico rundt 2000-tallet, og har i over tjue år holdt intime konserter i gater, barer og festivaler og ikke minst rundt bål og i lavvo.
Hun har også skapt en ny form for musikkformidling ved å fusjonere musikk og film, og hun har laget flere kortfilmer i grenselandet mellom dokumentar, fiksjon og musikal.
Etter et tilfeldig bilkræsj i Dublin i 2011, ble Vollset en del av et unikt og urbant hestemiljø i bydelen The Liberties. Dette resulterte i tre prisvinnende musikkfilmer: «No Plan» (2016) – en gatemusikal om ungdommene i dette hestemiljøet. Låten gikk viralt og vant pris ved The Irish Film Institute´s Documentary Festival; «They Can’t Stop You» (2020) – en suggerende låt og kortdokumentar om frihetskamp, som vant beste musikkvideo under Bergen Internasjonale Filmfestival. Og nylig har hun sluppet «Robin in the Hood» (2025), en 30-minutters musikal som for tiden vises på filmfestivaler internasjonalt og som allerede har vunnet tre priser.
Vollset utfordrer tradisjonell musikk produksjon og formidling, og på årets festival vil hun holde en intimkonsert i lavvo rundt bålet, hvor hun trives best.

The Musical Slave is the stage name of Norwegian musician, storyteller and filmmaker Kristin Vollset. She describes her own music as tropical punk or folk-rock, with lyrics that explore themes of social justice, anthropology and cosmic forces. At the same time, she views her musical practice as a form of shamanism, and believes that music is central to bringing people back to a more natural and soulful state.
Vollset started out as a street musician in France and Mexico around the 2000s. For over twenty years, she has performed in the street, in bars, at festivals, in teepees and around the fire.
She has also created a new form of musical storytelling by fusing music and film, and she has produced several short films that combine the genres of documentary, fiction and musical.
Following an accidental crash into a wall in Dublin in 2011, Vollset became part of a unique inner-city horse community in The Liberties neighborhood of Dublin. This life-changing experience resulted in three award-winning musical films: No Plan (2016) – a street musical about the youth within this horse community. The title song went viral and won an award at the Irish Film Institute’s Documentary Festival; They Can’t Stop You (2020) – a hypnotic song and short documentary about our collective struggle for freedom, which won Best Music Video at the Bergen International Film Festival; and recently she released Robin in the Hood (2025), a 30-minute musical currently doing the rounds at international film festivals, and which has already garnered three film awards.
Vollset challenges traditional music production and performance, and at this year’s festival she will be playing around the fire in one of our teepees/lavvos, which according to Vollset is her favorite place to play.
