The island of Karlsøy is situated at exactly 70° north and 20° east, «at the edge of civilization» as a danish journalist once wrote. But no worries! Here is a guide on how to get to the festival from Tromsø city. If you are flying in from Oslo (1h40m), Bergen (1h50m) or elsewhere you will land at Langnes, Tromsø Airport, which is on the way from Tromsø to Karlsøya.
By bus
The easiest way to get to the festival is by bus from Tromsø (Prostneset station) or from the airport (Langnes TOS). The bus stop at the airport is a 50m walk from the airport entrance and it is Route 430 (Tromsø – Kvaløysletta – Hansnes – Grunnfjord). Ask at the airport information if unsure of how to find the bus stop.
If you have some extra time and are going to check out Tromsø City, DONT TAKE THE AIRPORT EXPRESS, the local bus is a lot cheaper and just as fast.
By car
If you are driving to the festival from Tromsø you should follow Fylkesvei 863 (Fv863) to Hansnes where the ferry til Karlsøya departs. Check the map below or Google Maps for directions. The drive takes about ONE HOUR depending on your driving. Then take the ferry (MF Malangen) to Karlsøy. The ferry is free for people but costs 300 NOK for a car so it’s a good idea to park your car at Hansnes where the ferry departs.
